The Arlington Police contacted the bank, where officials led them to Guadalupe Alvarez, an employee at Tenoch Mexican Food Corp, who confirmed that she had lost the bag earlier.
Since then, the Arlington Police awarded the first-grader an Outstanding Citizen’s Award and said that this was the epitome of good citizenship.
Every state in the United States has laws requiring the return of money or property if it is possible to identify the owner. Since the owner would be recognizable if one was to find a wallet full of cash or a bank envelope including an ID, one can not legally pocket the cash. Should the rightful owner fail to surface after a certain period of time, every state's laws will allow the finder to take the money as his or her own.
Since the bag found by Jasper and Erik had neither, they were legally allowed to claim the money as their own. It was only the goodness of their heart that stopped them and brought them at the police’s doorstep.
Faith in Humanity Restored. Jasper and Erik have just started a
Flutur Effect of their own! We wish them the best of luck in their lives to comes.
